Cassandra Williams
Willie J. Williams Middle School
ISS Coordinator for 6th & 7th Grades
How long have you been teaching?
I have seven years of experience in the field of education. My career began as a special education paraprofessional, after which I transitioned to teaching 7th grade inclusion math. Currently, I am the ISS Coordinator for 6th and 7th grades at Willie J. Williams Middle School. Additionally, I possess a Master’s degree in Special Education.
What inspired you to pursue a career in education?
I have always been passionate about mentorship and leadership. My desire to positively influence the lives of young individuals, particularly during the crucial middle school years, inspired me to pursue a career in education. I aimed to be a role model for students, providing them with guidance, support, and encouragement.
What is your favorite thing about teaching or your biggest success story?
One of my proudest accomplishments is founding and coaching the WJW Dream Squad Step/Pep Team. Watching students grow in confidence, teamwork, and self-discipline through our practices and performances brings me so much joy. I’m also honored to sponsor the WJW Gentlemen’s Club, where I help young men develop leadership, respect, and character.
What challenges do you face in the classroom?
One of the primary challenges is assisting students in effectively managing their emotions and behaviors, particularly in an In-School Suspension (ISS) setting. Each day presents a fresh chance to impart not just academic knowledge, but also essential social and emotional skills that will benefit them throughout their lives.
How do Gallopade products or Gallopade Curriculum help you in the classroom?
As the ISS Coordinator, I want to emphasize that students are required to finish their assignments while in ISS. This involves utilizing Gallopade, a versatile and efficient resource that supports my students in completing their social studies tasks. All necessary tools and information are readily available, allowing students to simply log in and begin their work. This resource aids them in maintaining their academic progress, even when they are not in the traditional classroom setting.
What is something that every student should know about teachers?
Every student should know that teachers truly care—more than they may realize. We show up every day to uplift, encourage, and challenge them to be the best versions of themselves, even when they don’t see their own potential yet.
What advice would you impart to a new teacher or someone who wants to become a teacher?
Be patient—with your students and yourself. Build strong relationships, set clear boundaries, and always lead with love and consistency. Your influence goes far beyond the classroom.
What do you love to do when you're not teaching?
Outside of the classroom, I take pleasure in line dancing, stepping, exercising, and designing shirts for different members of the community. I cherish the time spent with my amazing husband and our lovely children. Additionally, I work part-time at the YMCA, where I enjoy connecting with new individuals and expanding my knowledge about health. I am passionate about mentoring and coaching my step team, volunteering with my sorority, Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., and discovering innovative methods to inspire young people through community engagement and empowerment initiatives.
