Gallopade's Favorite Month of the Year!

There's something magical about October. The air turns crisp, leaves crunch underfoot, and everywhere you look, jack-o'-lanterns grin from porches while paper skeletons dance in windows. But October isn't just any month for us at Gallopade—it's our month! That's right, Gallopade was born during spooky season, which might explain why we're absolutely obsessed with all things Halloween. From the moment September ends, we're ready to celebrate with costumes, candy, and a whole lot of educational fun!

Speaking of Halloween, did you know this beloved holiday has roots stretching back over 2,000 years? It all began with the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain (pronounced "sow-win"), when people believed the boundary between the living and the dead became blurred. They'd light bonfires and wear costumes—originally animal skins and heads—to ward off roaming ghosts. When Christianity spread through Celtic lands, the church established All Saints' Day on November 1st, and the evening before became "All Hallows' Eve," eventually shortened to Halloween. Irish and Scottish immigrants brought these traditions to America in the 19th century, where they evolved into the community-centered, candy-filled celebration we know today. Those early costumes were meant to be genuinely frightening, but nowadays you're just as likely to see a superhero or a dinosaur trick-or-treating alongside the traditional ghosts and goblins!
