As we celebrate June 2026, we're just one month away from America's momentous 250th birthday! This month has always been packed with pivotal moments in our nation's story, making it the perfect time to reflect on the incredible journey that brought us here. From the birth of our flag to the expansion of our democracy, June reminds us why we're proud to be Americans.

Foundations of Freedom
June marks some of the most critical moments in establishing our nation's identity. On June 14, 1777, Congress adopted the Stars and Stripes as our official flag—a symbol that would inspire generations and fly over countless triumphs. Even more foundational, June 21, 1788, saw New Hampshire become the ninth state to ratify the U.S. Constitution, officially bringing our governing document to life. This same month in 1788, Virginia followed suit on June 25, cementing the Constitution's authority. These weren't just bureaucratic formalities—they were the moments when abstract ideals of liberty became concrete reality.
Expanding the Union and Democracy
June has witnessed America grow both in size and in the promise of its ideals. Seven states joined our Union during this month: New Hampshire and Virginia (both in 1788), New York (June 26, 1788), Kentucky (1792), Tennessee (1796), Arkansas (1836), and West Virginia (1863). But perhaps no June moment better represents America's evolving commitment to equality than June 4, 1919, when Congress passed the 19th Amendment, granting women the right to vote—a victory ratified the following year that expanded democracy to half our population. And we can't forget June 6, 1944—D-Day—when American forces stormed the beaches of Normandy. This year marks the 82nd anniversary of that defining moment of courage that helped liberate Europe and secure freedom for millions.
Celebrating American Greatness
June has also given us remarkable Americans who shaped our nation in countless ways. This month celebrates the birthdays of two presidents: Donald Trump (June 14) and George H.W. Bush (June 12), leaders who guided America through pivotal eras. We also honor Helen Keller (June 27), whose triumph over adversity inspired millions and advanced disability rights, and Frank Lloyd Wright (June 8), the visionary architect who reimagined American design and left us breathtaking landmarks. These individuals, born in June, embody the innovation, resilience, and determination that define the American spirit.
As we count down to July 4, 2026, let's use this June to appreciate how far we've come. From the first stars and stripes to the beaches of Normandy, from expanding our borders to expanding the right to vote, June encapsulates the American story—one of growth, sacrifice, and an unwavering belief in progress.
